A New Earth
Cut along the dashed lines and pass the cards around the table.
Where did you do most of your reading of this one, and did the place start to feel different while you read?
Was there a page that made you set the book down in your lap for a minute? What were you thinking about?
Tolle talks about the constant commentary running in our heads. When you first noticed yours, was it funny, embarrassing, or kind of a relief?
Which small ordinary moment in your week comes closest to what he means by just being present (washing dishes, the dog on your feet, waiting for the kettle)?
The idea of the pain-body, old hurt that wakes up and wants feeding, lands hard for some people. Did reading it make you gentler with yourself or with someone else?
He suggests much of what we think we need is the ego shopping for a self. Was there a comfort in being let off that hook, or did part of you want to argue?
By the later chapters the book asks you to loosen your grip on your own story. Was there anything you felt protective of, something you did not want to stop identifying with, and can you say why it matters to you?
Tolle keeps gesturing toward a quieter way of living underneath the busy one. Reading the whole way through, did you ever feel you touched that quiet, even briefly, and what do you think it would cost you to live there more often?
