On the table

Yorkshire Parkin

A sticky oat, ginger, and treacle cake from the book's home county. It tastes better a day or two after baking, so you can make it ahead and relax.

Slow-Cooked Lamb and Root Vegetable Stew with Crusty Bread

Hearty moorland farmhouse fare, sheep country in a bowl, and it simmers quietly while guests arrive. Serve it in mugs or small bowls for easy lap eating.

Oatcakes with Wensleydale Cheese and Apple Chutney

A simple Yorkshire-style board that suits the rustic kitchen at the Heights and needs zero cooking.

To sip

Strong Yorkshire Tea with Milk and Honey No alcohol

The ultimate comforting brew, served in a big pot by the fire, just the way Nelly might pour it for a weary visitor.

Mulled Cider with Orange and Cinnamon

Warm, spiced, and gently indulgent, like stepping in from a bitter moorland wind.

Hot Toddy with Whisky, Lemon, and Honey

A soothing nightcap for a book full of cold nights and restless hearts.

Soft, misty folk and gentle piano, like rain tapping a farmhouse window while the fire crackles
